JB Berkow's inspiration for the "Versailles Series" was initially sparked by JB's first trip to the famous palace in 1993. It was a miserable overcast day, but she was so stirred by the elegance and majesty of the statuary, especially those of the fountains, that she knew it would eventually spawn a series. Six years later, after fully realizing what form her paintings would take, she returned to shoot all the photos necessary to complete the project. It is not unusual for JB to take years to fully formulate a vision before actually commecing the work.

The "Giverny Series" was inspired by one of Monet's most endearing legacies, the gardens he created in and around his home of Giverny. Titles of work in this series make reference to musical terms. This is because JB finds a tredmendous lyrical quality to the garden and water scenes.

JB Berkow grew up just outside of DC in Bethesda, and studied at the Corcoran School of Art. She founded the very successful cooperative, Touchstone Gallery, back in 1976. Ten years later, JB relocated to Florida where she now lives.
