Deborah Bigeleisen brings so much feeling to her artwork that her depiction of flowers attains the feeling of a family portrait. With great affection she takes care to record every detail of their texture and shape. She paints her flowers with glowing colors, taking care to replicate the actual color that she sees.

Deborah doesn't seem to differentiate between human and non-human. She recognizes that flowers are the outgrowth of the earth and each one has character and possesses a lush voluptuousness. Most of her paintings concentrate on a single bloom, large in size, so stunning that they command the view of the audience. The artist, through her drawing and the sophistication of her palette, captures all the fragility and beauty of her subjects.

The painterly appearance of her works belies the fact that their buttery-looking surfaces are actually created by transparent washes and layers of opaque paint. Focusing on beauty and aesthetics, she uses the glazing techniques developed by Dutch Luminist masters to achieve a depth, luminosity and aerial perspective.
